Swing and big band
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Swing and big band · In the 1930s, the New Orleans band grew into the big band of twelve to seventeen musicians, with an arranger who wrote riffs for the sections. The eighth notes are played long-short and the bass walks on all four beats. Duke Ellington led the orchestra of the Cotton Club in Harlem; the white Benny Goodman became the ‘King of Swing’.
