From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
Theo Uden Masman & The Ramblers · The pianist Theo Uden Masman founded The Ramblers in 1926, which grew into the best-known Dutch dance orchestra of the 1930s. The band played in hotels, on radio and in films, and made many records. The orchestra played a mixture of dance music and jazz in the style of the American bands of the time. In 1935 and 1937 the American tenor saxophonist Coleman Hawkins, who was then working in Europe, made records with The Ramblers in the Netherlands. That was a high point for Dutch jazz before the war. During the occupation the orchestra had to abide by the rules of the German occupier, who distrusted jazz. After the war the band continued to play on the radio until 1964.
