King

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

King is T.I.'s fourth studio album and was released on 28 March 2006 on Grand Hustle and Atlantic. It was first intended as the soundtrack to his film debut ATL, but he had so much material that it also became an album in its own right. The title refers to his son, Clifford King Joseph Harris III. The recording took a year and a half and more than 70 songs were made. Producers included DJ Toomp, Cool & Dre, Just Blaze, Mannie Fresh and Swizz Beatz. Common took over the guest role from Jay-Z, who could not do it because of his schedule.

What You Know became the big hit: number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and a Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance. The album debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 and was praised for its varied style, its lavish production and the contradictory themes in the lyrics. It ranked high on several year-end lists.
