Urban Legend

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Urban Legend is T.I.'s third studio album and was released on 30 November 2004 on Atlantic Records and his own label Grand Hustle. In March 2004 an arrest warrant had been issued against him for violating his probation. He was given three years in prison, but thanks to a work-release arrangement was allowed to carry on making music and recorded material for several albums in Atlanta and Los Angeles. Producers such as DJ Toomp, Jazze Pha, Lil Jon, The Neptunes, Mannie Fresh, Scott Storch and Swizz Beatz worked on it.

Bring Em Out became his first top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, and U Don't Know Me reached number 23 and received a Grammy nomination. The album entered at number seven on the Billboard 200 and went platinum. Critics were mostly positive. AllMusic felt that he was repeating himself, and Rolling Stone called the production almost joyless, but regarded him as a top lyricist.
