Mambo
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Mambo · The mambo grew out of the danzón and the son in Havana in the late 1930s. From 1949 the pianist and bandleader Dámaso Pérez Prado made it a craze in Mexico City, with a big band that had the brass play sharp and high. In the early 1950s thousands of people in New York also danced the mambo, including at the Palladium Ballroom.
