Lil Hardin Armstrong · Lil Hardin grew up in Memphis, studied music at Fisk University and moved to Chicago, where she demonstrated sheet music in a music shop. She became the pianist in King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band and in 1924 married Louis Armstrong.
