New Orleans jazz
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
New Orleans jazz · Around 1900 jazz grew out of the brass bands in New Orleans, later also called Dixieland or hot jazz. Cornet, clarinet and trombone improvise at the same time above banjo, tuba and drums: collective improvisation. In 1917 the first jazz record appeared, by the white Original Dixieland Jass Band.
Listening
Listening tip. Follow the division of roles: the cornet plays the melody, the clarinet decorates above it and the trombone slides beneath.
