Delta blues

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre

Delta blues · Around 1890 the blues grew out of the work songs, hollers and spirituals of the Black population in the rural South, with the Mississippi Delta as an important area. Characteristics are the 12-bar scheme with an AAB text, blue notes and slide guitar. In 1936 and 1937 Robert Johnson recorded 29 songs in all.

Listening

Listening tip. In Cross Road Blues, count the bars along: Johnson follows the lyrics and stretches the scheme or moves to the next chord early.
