From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Folk revival · In the 1950s and 1960s, young white musicians in Greenwich Village, New York, rediscovered old folk music: the folk revival. Dave Van Ronk made a new arrangement of House of the Rising Sun, which Bob Dylan put on his debut album in 1962. Dylan's protest songs later inspired Boudewijn de Groot as well.
