House
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
House · From 1977 Frankie Knuckles played a mix of disco, soul and European synth-pop at The Warehouse in Chicago, for a mainly Black and gay crowd. From 1984 young producers in Chicago began making tracks themselves with a drum machine, a synthesizer and a tape recorder. At its core, house is disco with a machine: four-on-the-floor at around 120 bpm.
