Disco
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Disco emerged around 1970 in New York clubs for Black, Latino and gay patrons, such as The Loft and later the Paradise Garage, where the DJ let records flow seamlessly into one another. The rhythm is four-on-the-floor: a bass drum on every beat, around 120 bpm, with strings and horns above. After Disco Demolition Night in 1979, disco lived on as garage and house.
Listening
Listening tip. In Le Freak, hear Nile Rodgers's short 'chucking' chords and Bernard Edwards's bass, which keeps moving.
