Contemporary R&B
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Contemporary R&B · The term rhythm and blues came back as R&B: vocals, production and drum machines are central, and the producer becomes a star. The beginning lies with Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones; Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis brought Prince's Minneapolis sound to Janet Jackson (Control, 1986). Via new jack swing and hip hop soul, R&B and hip hop became the core of the mainstream after 2000.
