New jack swing

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre

New jack swing · In the late 1980s, the producer Teddy Riley in New York combined the singing of R&B with the beats of hip hop: new jack swing. The drum machine swings, with a short, hard snare, while singers such as Bobby Brown and Keith Sweat sing soulfully over it. In the early 1990s hip hop soul grew out of new jack swing.
