K-pop

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre

K-pop is South Korean pop music that grew from 1992, when Seo Taiji and Boys sang hip hop and rock in Korean. Big entertainment companies train young artists for years in singing, dancing and presentation and put groups together from them, with teams of songwriters and producers from home and abroad. That idea of a team turning out hits at a rapid pace had appeared earlier with Stock Aitken Waterman and Max Martin. With Dynamite (2020), BTS became the first Korean act to reach number 1 in the Billboard Hot 100.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Dynamite for the tight disco groove and the vocals shared out among the members of the group.
