Synth disco and Hi-NRG
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Synth disco and Hi-NRG · In Munich in 1977, the producer Giorgio Moroder made I Feel Love with Donna Summer, without a band: the bass line comes from a Moog driven by a sequencer. The song stands at the beginning of Hi-NRG, Italo disco and later house. Hi-NRG itself took shape in the early 1980s in gay clubs in San Francisco, New York and London: fast, electronic dance music, with producers such as Patrick Cowley and Bobby Orlando.
Listening
Listening tip. Hear the bass line that a sequencer repeats endlessly and exactly in time, with the high, long-held singing above it.
