Moog and the first synthesizer pop
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Moog and the first synthesizer pop · From 1964 Robert Moog built synthesizers in Trumansburg that a musician could play himself, with an ordinary piano keyboard. Wendy Carlos made the instrument known with Switched-On Bach (1968), and in 1970 the portable Minimoog appeared. Hot Butter's Popcorn (1972) became a worldwide hit, with the synthesizer as a funny sound on top of an ordinary band.
Listening
Listening tip. Notice that the synthesizer in Popcorn plays only one note at a time: the first synthesizers were monophonic.
