Minimoog

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Technology

The large modular Moog was a cabinet full of cables for a studio. In 1970, the Minimoog arrived: a portable synthesizer with the most important components built in permanently, with no patch cords. You put it on a stage next to the organ, and the synthesizer became an ordinary band instrument. The Minimoog plays one note at a time and is famous for its fat bass lines and sharp lead sounds. Bernie Worrell played the bass with it in the funk of Parliament, Kraftwerk used it on Autobahn, and Gary Numan brought it into synth-pop.

Listening

Listening tip. Find the deep, round synthesizer bass or the bright synth melody: which of them is the Minimoog playing?
