Progressive rock
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Progressive rock turned the album into a composition, with long songs, classical influences and complicated time signatures. Close to the Edge (1972) by Yes fills an entire album side, and The Dark Side of the Moon (1973) by Pink Floyd is one continuous work. In the Netherlands, Focus broke through with prog rock with a sense of humour.
Listening
Listening tip. Count along in Money: the song is in seven beats, except during the guitar solo, with a tape loop of cash-register sounds as its rhythm.
