Symphonic metal
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Symphonic metal combines heavy guitars and drums with orchestral sounds, choirs and a classically trained voice. The Netherlands became a centre of the style: Within Temptation, founded in 1996 around the singer Sharon den Adel, and Epica, founded in 2002, play at festivals all over the world.
Listening
Listening tip. In Mother Earth, hear how orchestra and choir rise above the distorted guitars, with the clear voice of Sharon den Adel.
