Synthpop
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Synthpop · Synth-pop is the most poppy branch of new wave: Kraftwerk was the example for Gary Numan, OMD and The Human League, and later for the Pet Shop Boys. Often it is a duo of a singer and someone behind the synthesizers. Eurythmics recorded Sweet Dreams largely by themselves, in an attic studio in north London, with a drum machine that also drove the bass line, and Bronski Beat sang openly about life as gay men.
Listening
Listening tip. In Tainted Love, hear how a soul song from 1964 is given a cold, electronic version.
