Hyperpop

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre

Hyperpop exaggerates everything about pop: high, distorted voices with Auto-Tune, bright synthesizers, hard bass and sudden twists. Its roots lie with the London label PC Music of A. G. Cook and with the producer SOPHIE, from 2013. The name came into use in 2019 via a Spotify playlist, with 100 gecs as a well-known act, and in 2024 Charli XCX brought the style to a wide audience with Brat.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Immaterial for the metallic synthesizers, the high voices and the cheerful exaggeration.
