Pro Tools and the DAW

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Technology

Pro Tools and the DAW · In 1991, Digidesign released Pro Tools, a system with which you could record and edit multitrack audio on an Apple computer without tape. Such a program is called a digital audio workstation, or DAW. In 1999, Ricky Martin's Livin' la Vida Loca became the first number 1 hit to be recorded and mixed entirely in Pro Tools. Later, programs such as Logic, Cubase, FL Studio and Ableton Live turned every laptop into a studio. A bedroom producer can now make a complete record at home, with plug-ins that imitate old synthesizers and drum machines.
