SoundCloud

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Technology

SoundCloud was founded in 2007 by the Swedes Alexander Ljung and Eric Wahlforss and made its home in Berlin. On the platform, anyone can upload their own tracks for free, and listeners can comment at an exact moment in a song. Around 2015, a new rap scene grew out of it, SoundCloud rap: young artists who recorded at home, with distorted 808s, short songs and plenty of Auto-Tune. Hyperpop also found its first audience there. A track could go viral there without a label or radio.

Listening

Listening tip. Can you hear that this was made at home? Notice the distorted bass and how short and direct the song is.
