Trap
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Trap · In Atlanta from the early 2000s, trap grew, a hip hop style from the southern United States, named after the trap house where drugs were sold. T.I., Young Jeezy and Gucci Mane were the first names. Its basis is long, gliding 808 bass drums and fast hi-hat rolls, and Auto-Tune became an ordinary part of the voice. Old Town Road (2018) showed how trap could mix with country.
Listening
Listening tip. In What You Know, hear the deep 808 bass and the hi-hats rattling in fast rolls.
