Latin trap
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Latin trap is trap in Spanish, from Puerto Rico. De La Ghetto and Arcángel were already rapping over trap beats around 2007, but around 2016 it became a wave, via SoundCloud and YouTube. You hear the 808 bass and rattling hi-hats of trap from Atlanta, with the language and sometimes the rhythm of reggaeton. Bad Bunny broke through in 2016 with Soy Peor and Anuel AA with Sola. In 2018 I Like It by Cardi B, Bad Bunny and J Balvin reached number one in America.
Listening
Listening tip. Listen to Sola for the slow beat with the deep 808 bass and fast hi-hats beneath the Spanish vocals.
