Electro
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Electro · Afrika Bambaataa also played Kraftwerk at his parties in the Bronx. In 1982 he recorded Planet Rock with Arthur Baker and John Robie: the melody from Trans-Europe Express and a rhythm modelled on Kraftwerk's Numbers, programmed on the Roland TR-808. This is how electro came about: cold European synthesizers with an American breakbeat.
Listening
Listening tip. Hear the 808: a short, dry snare, a ticking hi-hat and a deep bass drum that rings on for a long time.
