Electroclash
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Around 2001 electroclash was a collision between electronic dance music and punk. The DJ Larry Tee coined the name and in October 2001 organised the Electroclash Festival in Williamsburg, a district of Brooklyn in New York. The music borrows the cool synthesizers and drum machines of 1980s synth-pop and electro, with detached, half-spoken vocals. Fischerspooner, Peaches, Miss Kittin & The Hacker and the British band Ladytron were the best-known names. Clothes and show were at least as important as the music.
Listening
Listening tip. In Emerge, hear the tight drum machine and the synthesizer lines that build up further and further, with vocals that sound cool rather than warm.
