New wave
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
New wave is a collective name for musicians who wanted to go further after punk, with more attention to atmosphere, melody and sound. The roots lie with punk, but also with disco and krautrock. The movement runs from guitar bands such as The Cure, The Police and The Smiths to synth bands such as Tubeway Army and Depeche Mode.
