Neue Deutsche Welle

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre

Around 1979 a wave of German-language rock and pop arose in West Germany out of punk and new wave, which the journalist Alfred Hilsberg called Neue Deutsche Welle. It began in the avant-garde with DAF and Einstürzende Neubauten and within a few years ended up in the charts. The Austrian Falco also scored in this wave, with Der Kommissar. By around 1985 the genre had disappeared.
