FL Studio (FruityLoops)

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Technology

FL Studio (FruityLoops) · At the Ghent software company Image-Line, the nineteen-year-old Didier Dambrin wrote a simple program for making drum rhythms. In early 1998, FruityLoops was released: a grid of boxes in which you click with the mouse where a beat should fall. It grew into a complete studio and has been called FL Studio since 2003. A free trial version existed, and a generation of bedroom producers learned to make beats with it. Soulja Boy made Crank That with that trial version, the Dutchman Martin Garrix worked on Animals in it, and YoungKio built the beat of Old Town Road with it, which he sold online for a few tenners.

Listening

Listening tip. These beats were made on a computer at home: can you hear the pattern that is repeated again and again?
