Synthwave

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre

Synthwave is electronic music that imitates the sound of the 1980s: analogue synthesizers, reverberant drums, arpeggios from Italo disco and images of neon and old films. French producers such as Kavinsky and College made it popular in the mid-2000s; Nightcall (2010) was heard in the film Drive (2011). The Weeknd, too, used those sounds in Blinding Lights.

Listening

Listening tip. In Nightcall, hear the slow beat, the distorted voice and the synthesizers that recall the 1980s.
