Giorgio Moroder

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Giorgio Moroder comes from South Tyrol and worked as a producer in Munich from the late 1960s. With Donna Summer he made I Feel Love (1977), a disco hit created almost entirely with synthesizers and a sequencer. He brought that technique to film. For Alan Parker's Midnight Express (1978) he wrote pulsating electronic music, for which he won an Oscar. American Gigolo (1980), Cat People (1982), with a title song sung by David Bowie, and Scarface (1983) followed. Moroder also won Oscars for the songs Flashdance... What a Feeling (1983) and Take My Breath Away from Top Gun (1986).

Listening

Listening tip. Notice the continuous sequencer pulse in the bass, and how the music is built up like a disco track.
