Son of My Father

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Son of My Father, from 1972, is an album that Giorgio Moroder composed, produced and performed himself. He recorded it at his own Musicland Studios, together with Pete Bellotte as coordinator and musicians such as the drummer Keith Forsey. Moroder played guitar and synthesizers and also used a Moog.

Three pieces, Tears, Underdog and Son of My Father, were heard in the film Die Klosterschülerinnen, for which Moroder also wrote the music. Automation was heard in the film Oswalt Kolle: Liebe als Gesellschaftsspiel. The title song became better known still in the version by the English group Chicory Tip. Tears also continued to resonate: the group Shirocco later made a version with vocals of it, under the title Es War Nur Ein Traum.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Son Of My Father and notice the synthesizer: hear how an electronic sound plays the leading role here in a pop song.
