Garage

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre

The Paradise Garage in New York, with the DJ Larry Levan, was one of the most important dance clubs from 1977 to 1987. When disco vanished from the charts, the music lived on there, with soulful vocals and gospel influences: garage, named after the club. In the 1990s UK garage emerged in England from this style.
