UK garage

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre

In the late 1990s, London DJs and producers turned American garage and house into a style of their own, faster and with influences from jungle: UK garage, and later 2-step, with a skipping rhythm in which the bass drum does not fall on every beat. Pirate radio and clubs played it, and Craig David scored with Artful Dodger with Re-Rewind (1999). Grime and dubstep grew out of UK garage.

Listening

Listening tip. In Re-Rewind, hear the skipping 2-step rhythm, the deep bass and the smooth singing of Craig David.
