Acid house

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre

Acid house · On Acid Tracks (1987) the Chicago group Phuture turned the knobs of a Roland TB-303, a failed bass-line machine, as they played. By turning the filter open and closed, the bass line squeaks, squelches and wails: acid house. The sound crossed the ocean and in England became the music of the first raves.

Listening

Listening tip. In Acid Tracks, follow how the bass line changes as the filter is opened and closed.
