Berlin techno

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre

After the fall of the Wall in 1989 many buildings in East Berlin stood empty. There clubs emerged such as Tresor (1991), in the vault of a former department store, where techno from Detroit and Berlin came together. The Love Parade grew in the 1990s into a street party with hundreds of thousands of visitors, and Berghain (2004) became one of the best-known clubs in the world. Berlin techno is often bare, dark and hypnotic, with long build-ups.

Listening

Listening tip. In Sky and Sand, hear the long, slow build-up above a tight beat, the sound of a Berlin night.
