Singer-songwriters
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Singer-songwriters wrote their own songs, sang them themselves and told, in the first person, about their own lives. Carole King moved from the Brill Building to Los Angeles; her Tapestry (1971) became one of the best-selling albums of the 1970s. Joni Mitchell tuned her guitar in dozens of open tunings.

Listening tip. In Big Yellow Taxi, hear the skipping guitar in open tuning beneath a lyric about the environment.
