Cool Jazz and modal jazz
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Cool Jazz and modal jazz · In 1949 and 1950 Miles Davis recorded with a nonet the sessions that were later called Birth of the Cool, with French horn and tuba alongside the usual horns and arrangements by, among others, Gil Evans. Cool Jazz is soft, with little vibrato and a lot of space. With Kind of Blue (1959) Davis took the step to modal jazz; it became the best-selling jazz album ever.
Listening
