Charlie Haden
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
The bassist Charlie Haden grew up in Iowa and Missouri in a family that sang country music on the radio. In 1959 he played in Ornette Coleman's quartet, where his warm, simple bass lines connected the free melodies. In 1969 he founded the Liberation Music Orchestra with Carla Bley, which played songs from the Spanish Civil War and protest music. Song for Ché is a tribute to Che Guevara. Haden played in Keith Jarrett's quartet and later led Quartet West. With Pat Metheny he made Beyond the Missouri Sky (1996), a record of simple, quiet duets.
