Beyond
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Beyond is a 2000 studio album by saxophonist Joshua Redman, released by Warner Bros. It contains ten original compositions. Critics see its success in the musicians he invited: pianist Aaron Goldberg, bassist Reuben Rogers and drummer Gregory Hutchinson. Redman wanted to make the album a statement about their shared identity and wrote all the pieces with them in mind.
Mark Turner plays tenor saxophone on the fourth track. JazzTimes wrote that the compositions suggest Redman is going to live up to the hype. The Washington Post found the pieces logical and coherent, because he is working with familiar partners. The Buffalo News called it perhaps his best record to date. Courage (Asymmetric Aria) and Balance were used on the programme Local Forecast on The Weather Channel.
