Bros

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Bros was an English pop group, formed in 1986 in Camberley in Surrey. The band consisted of the twin brothers Matt and Luke Goss and their school friend Craig Logan. Matt was given a saxophone by their mother's boyfriend, Luke an electronic drum kit. The group was managed by Tom Watkins, the man who also looked after the Pet Shop Boys.

Music and breakthrough

In 1988 Bros broke through with When Will I Be Famous? and I Owe You Nothing, the group's only number one in the United Kingdom. The debut album Push was released on 28 March 1988. Drop the Boy, I Quit and Cat Among the Pigeons also reached the charts. The press spoke of Brosmania: a horde of teenage girls, the Brosettes, held the group in its grip. In September 1988 the London police closed off part of Oxford Street because so many fans had come to a record signing. In early 1989 Logan left because of illness, after which the brothers carried on as a duo. They released The Time in 1989 and Changing Faces in 1991. In 1992 the band split up. In 2017 the brothers got together one more time for two performances at the O2 Arena.

Influence

Bros made smooth, danceable pop music and remains known as an example of a teen phenomenon of the 1980s.
