As Long as There’s Music
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
As Long as There’s Music · As Long as There's Music is an album of duets by bassist Charlie Haden and pianist Hampton Hawes. It was recorded in 1976 and released in 1978 on Artists House. It contains original compositions by Hawes and the bassist, and music by others. This Is Called Love is a variant on Cole Porter's What Is This Thing Called Love. The 1993 CD reissue added a bonus track that had previously appeared on The Golden Number, and three alternate takes.
The sessions took place in Burbank and Los Angeles. AllMusic called the music calm and often lyrical, with many thoughtful and subtle ideas from two masters. DownBeat gave it four stars and spoke of an album full of beautiful secret knowledge.
