Gary Peacock

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

The bassist Gary Peacock grew up in Idaho and began as a pianist. In the 1960s he played in New York with Bill Evans, Paul Bley and Albert Ayler, with whom he recorded Spiritual Unity (1964). He then stopped playing music for a time, lived in Japan and studied Zen Buddhism and biology. In 1977 he recorded Tales of Another for ECM, with Keith Jarrett and Jack DeJohnette. From that session grew, in 1983, the Standards Trio, which lasted thirty years. Peacock's playing is melodic and open, with a great deal of space.
