Shift in the Wind

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

The American jazz bassist Gary Peacock recorded Shift in the Wind in February 1980. The album was released later that year on ECM. It is a trio: Peacock plays bass, Art Lande piano and Eliot Zigmund drums. There are seven pieces on it. Three are by Peacock himself, two by Lande, and Fractions and Centers were written jointly by the three musicians.

Scott Yanow wrote for AllMusic that the interplay between these masterly musicians matters more than the compositions, and that the album rewards repeated listening. Caverns Beneath the Zoth, at just over ten minutes, is the longest piece on the record. The shortest is Fractions, at a little over five minutes.
