Ludwig van Beethoven
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
Ludwig van Beethoven came from Bonn and settled in Vienna in 1792, where he took lessons with Haydn. He stretched the classical forms into personal dramas and kept on composing while growing steadily deafer. His Fifth Symphony of 1808 builds an entire work from a single four-note motif and moves from C minor to a radiant C major. In doing so he became the great example for the whole of the nineteenth century.

Listening tip. Listen to the opening of the Fifth and count how often you hear the four-note motif return, even when it is passed along quietly.
