Franz Schubert
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
Franz Schubert lived in Vienna almost all his life and had few public successes, but his music was heard at evenings with friends, the Schubertiads. He wrote more than six hundred songs and made the song for voice and piano a fully fledged art form. In Erlkönig from 1815 the piano plays the galloping horse, while a single singer portrays the narrator, the father, the child and the Erlking. He died in 1828, only thirty-one years old.

Listening tip. Listen to the beginning of Erlkönig and hear how the lightning-fast repeated notes in the piano make the horse gallop through the night.
