Franz Liszt
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
Franz Liszt was the greatest piano virtuoso of his time and caused a veritable Lisztomania on his tours. He was one of the first to play an entire concert on his own, and he pushed back the boundaries of what a pianist can do. From 1848 he worked as Kapellmeister in Weimar, where he developed the symphonic poem and defended the music of Wagner. His Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 moves from a sombre, free opening to a whirling dance.
