Herbie Hancock

Herbie Hancock uit Chicago speelde op zijn elfde een concert van Mozart met het Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In de jazz noemde hij Bill Evans als belangrijke invloed op zijn harmonie. Zijn eerste album Takin' Off (1962) bevatte Watermelon Man, dat een hit werd. Van 1963 tot 1968 speelde hij in het tweede kwintet van Miles Davis. Voor Blue Note nam hij Maiden Voyage op, een modaal album over de zee. In de jaren zeventig ging hij elektrisch: Head Hunters (1973) bracht jazz en funk samen. In 1983 had hij een hit met Rockit, met scratches van een dj. Hancock bleef steeds nieuwe technologie gebruiken.
