Chick Corea

Pianist Chick Corea uit de buurt van Boston groeide op met de platen van Bud Powell en Horace Silver. Hij speelde in latinbands van Mongo Santamaría en Willie Bobo, wat zijn ritmegevoel bepaalde. In 1968 nam hij het triolbum Now He Sings, Now He Sobs op en daarna speelde hij elektrische piano bij Miles Davis. In 1972 richtte hij Return to Forever op, eerst met zangeres Flora Purim en percussionist Airto Moreira, later als luide fusionband. Spain, gebaseerd op het Concierto de Aranjuez, werd een standard. Corea won meer dan twintig Grammy's en speelde ook vaak duo's met vibrafonist Gary Burton.
